Captain Nathan Winship

Nathan Winship, having a self-employment background in gunsmithing, residential construction, and disaster housing inspections; is a former Jacksonville Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni (2004).  Winship began his law enforcement career with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office where he was a dispatcher for two months prior to being hired by the Jacksonville Police Department as a recruit in April of 2008.  Winship was one of the first of two recruits to be hired and sent through the East Texas Police Academy as an employee of the city.  After completing field training with the department, Winship earned certifications as a Marine Safety Enforcement Officer, Field Training Officer, and recently received certification as a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) instructor.

During his tenure with the Jacksonville Police Department, Winship has served as Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, and Sergeant of the Criminal Investigations Division.  In July 2020, Winship was promoted to the position of Support Services Captain.  Winship currently holds an Advanced Peace Officer Certificate, and is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Business Administration and Management with Liberty University.
