On May 9, 2023, the Jacksonville City Council awarded a contract to Schaumburg and Polk Inc. for design, bidding, and construction services for improvements to Canada Street between South Bolton Street and South Jackson Street. The project will improve mobility between Bolton and Jackson while also improving Fire Department response times in some areas due to the realignment of the intersection with South Bolton to ensure a fire truck may make the turn.
The project will include the realignment of Canada Street, removing the sharp curve before the intersection with South Bolton, resulting in a 90 degree intersection. The entire stretch of Canada Street between South Bolton Street and South Jackson Street will be rebuilt as a concrete street with curb and gutter and a sidewalk on one side.
The timeline for the project is still in development. The project is expected to be substantially complete by 2026.
